Founded in Tokyo in 1967, Whitestone Gallery celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year and has expanded into Karuizawa, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, aiming to introduce post-war Japanese art to the world. The gallery participates in art fairs, not only in Japan, but also overseas in order to present the masterpieces by the Gutai Art Association, Yayoi Kusama, and Yoshitomo Nara. In addition to the great masters, it also promotes the works of certain international groups of aspiring artists to help foster their careers. For the Art Fair Asia 2017, Whitestone Gallery is pleased to present the historically significant paintings by Yu Kawashima, a young, traditional Japanese-style painter. It will also display Madara Manji’s Mokumegane works, which are created through the traditional Japanese technique of toreutics, and Hebime’s abstract paintings, which use a technique called “acrylic scratch.” Harumi Ori, who is based in New York and has won the grand ‘LUMINE meets Art Award 2016’ for her sculpture made of plastic mesh, will exhibit her highly acclaimed works in Fukuoka for the first time.
