During a period of focusing on treatment for a chronic illness, I became fascinated by the interplay of the subtle monochrome gradations and the scratches on the surface of the film created by the X-rays taken every morning. This led to an interest in experimental analog photography.
I became engrossed in visually solving problems based on visual ideas derived from X-rays and other sources that served as starting points. Although most of these ideas could not be realized as ideally envisioned, I often encountered unexpected expressions of paint on the screen during the creation process. By accepting these, a new cycle of creation emerged.
My approach involves faithfully representing physically existing objects while simultaneously attempting to distance them by altering colors, textures, and the focus of the painting, or by incorporating semi-transparent layers. This interaction between the two approaches forms semi-abstract images. This not only captivates me but also serves as markers that evoke fragments of memories, moods, sensations, and recognizable elements that viewers can individually understand and relate to.
