Artist Profile

naoko shimagami
naoko was born in 1971 in Osaka and been drawing since she was a young child.
She enjoys going to the art museum to look at art pieces submitted by various artists.
In the future, she hopes to complete a work of art that will charm anyone who looks at it.
In 1990, she entered Kyoto Seika University and became involved with the art department and foreign film
Department. She was influenced by Yuzo Saeki, a painter belonging to the Fauvism group which included
Vlaminck. She started to paint abstract pictures in order to be able to express herself more.
Naoko is always looking for new inspiration for artwork and likes to travel to other countries to fuel her creativity. Arabia in particular, left her with a very strong impression that she has been unable in forget.
She still remembers the peeling walls, the dry soil, and the piercing sky over Arabia. The sights and sounds
In lands completely foreign to her are like a symphony in the background.
The history embedded in the city and people in the other countries is very deep and eternal. It feels like time and experiences are overlapping. The ever-changing environment unearths new discoveries that Naoko absorbs through the air, wind, and light. She feels detached from her body and pours her spiritual self into her artwork to express this profound experience.
Over time, the thick, layered paint of paintings reflect the many layers of history that people have lived though.
Each layer represents a point in TIME that is connected with every other layer.
In the world, there are many different people, customs, manners, and ways of thinking. These things cannot
Be restricted or subdued. Similarly. Naoko’s creativity and freedom of expression are not restricted in her work. Anyone who observes her art is not tied down by preconceived thoughts or ideas. She wants anyone
Who enjoys her artwork to open their hearts and spread their wings.
Painting is Naoko’s lifework-she lives
In and thought her paintings. This is the only way that she can remain true to herself.
