The Tolman Collection

The Tolman Collection was founded in 1972 by former U.S. diplomat Norman Tolman and his wife, Mary, with the aim of introducing contemporary Japanese art to the world.

Since its founding, the gallery has developed a specialization in contemporary Japanese prints and has earned the trust of collectors and art professionals both in Japan and internationally. Today, it is recognized as one of the leading galleries in the field, representing more than forty established artists.

Now led by the second generation, Allison Tolman, The Tolman Collection continues to carry forward its founding vision from its bases in Tokyo and New York. Through exhibitions at museums and cultural institutions around the world, as well as participation in major international art fairs, the gallery continues to present original prints and paintings, including works created exclusively for The Tolman Collection, to audiences in Japan and abroad.
