Itaru Terada

Born in Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture in 1951. Entered into eternal rest in Kawasaki City in 2014. Graduated from Osaka University of Arts, Department of Fine Arts, Painting. Auditing student of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, Graduate School of Painting Composition. From 1980 to the first half of 1990, mainly held solo exhibitions in Tokyo, but stopped showing his works in pursuit of the painting and art he wanted to paint. In 2024, 10 years after his death and after a 30-year gap, the “Unknown Modernist Itaru Terada Exhibition” will begin a nationwide tour in Tokyo, Ehime, Osaka, Aichi, Oita, Fukuoka, etc., attracting true art fans of all ages.

Tsunaru Terada (1951-2014)
Born in Saijo City, Ehime Prefecture in 1951, Terada graduated from the Department of Painting, Osaka University of Arts in 1975, and was an auditing student at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts (painting composition). Using travel landscapes, familiar things, and people as his subjects, he created many works with bold compositions and a light touch painted with a single stroke that makes the viewer feel the breath of the subject.
His works were exhibited at Nishi-Ginza Gallery (1979), Gallery Tamaya (1980), Shirota Gallery (1982, 1983, 1985), Printemps Ginza (1991), Kashiwa Sogo (1992), Yokohama Sogo (1993), etc. He passed away in 2014.
In 2024, retrospective exhibitions are scheduled at Shinobazu Gallery, Misaki Gallery (Oita), Gallery Kawanishi (Ehime), Toyoda Gallery (Aichi), etc.

Joined the Gutai Art Association as a founding member in 1954.
Began mail art in the 1970s.

1994 Becomes president of the Japan Association of Arts and Culture for the Disabled (now AbleArts Japan).
1998: Invited to participate in the Postwar World Exhibition of MOCA, USA, with Jackson Pollock, John Cage, and Lucio Fontana,
1998 Selected as one of the four major artists in the world along with Jackson Pollock, John Cage, and Lucio Fontana for the Postwar World Exhibition of MOCA, USA.
1999 Invited to exhibit at the Venice Biennale.
2001 Invited to exhibit work at Japan Year, London.
Invited to exhibit at the Venice Biennale in 2003.
2006 Invited by the Chinese government to give a performance in Beijing.
2007 Invited to perform at the China-Japan Disabled Art Exhibition.
2008 Awarded the “Peace Prize” in Bologna, Italy.
2011 Invited performance by MODERNA MUSEET, Museum of Contemporary Art, Stockholm.
Toko Shinoda

Born in Dalian, Manchuria in 1913, he moved to Tokyo shortly after. Under the guidance of his father, he studied calligraphy and the Japanese and Chinese classics. In addition to his calligraphy, he created a unique style of painting by combining Chinese and Japanese poetry with ink drawings and paintings. He passed away on March 1, 2021 at the age of 107.
