galerie nichido is the first gallery specialized in the Western-style oil painting in Japan founded in 1928. As a pioneer taking an essential part in popularization of the European art in the country, the gallery runs on an extensive scale handling a wide range of works from the French Impressionism to contemporary art, and concurrently holding a large assortment of works by Japanese masters and emerging artists. galerie nichido has launched the Showa-kai, an annual contest of established for the purpose of promoting young emerging artists, started in 1966. The prize winners of the Showa-kai are now leading the Japanese art community, and contributing to enrich the cultural environment for succeeding generations.
