Gallery Soap, an alternative space in Kitakyushu, was launched to introduce artists from both home and abroad in 1997. Since then, we have organized exhibitions and events featuring various artists, including Dan Graham (US), Peter Harry, Charles Rim (Singapore), Miti Rangritia (Thailand), CANDY FACTORY, Hiroshi Fuji, Keita Egami, Yasuhide Moriyama, and BABU. The combined efforts of artists and researchers also led to the hosting of many exhibitions based on projects such as RE/ MAP (organized with Yoshitaka Mouri), Kitakyushu International Biennale (organized with Yoshihide Ohtomo), and HOTEL ASIA PROJECT (organized with Ni Kun), in Berlin, Vienna, Singapore, Bangkok, Chongqing, Tokyo, and Yogyakarta. In 2019, we established the commercial sector, setting up a booth in Art Fair Asia-Fukuoka and co-producing some exhibitions with GINZA TSUTAYA BOOS and OIL by Bijututecho to introduce and sell the works, mostly of youngsters. Other plans are also underway, taking advantage of our international networks to market Asian artists.
