◆The profile of your guide, Akio Tokunaga
With over 10 years of experience (as of Sep. 2025) as a National Government Licensed Guide Interpreter in Japan, and more than 30 years as a professional art installer specializing in contemporary visual art—particularly installations—I bring a unique perspective to your journey. For example, I assisted a German technician in installing Mona Hatoum’s artwork + and – at the Fukuoka Art Museum.
Holding a Bachelor of Engineering in Architecture from Kumamoto University, I guide and support visitors in discovering impressive sites ranging from public art and contemporary architecture to traditional and historical wooden buildings. Naturally, I can also guide you through Shinto shrines, Buddhist temples, and introduce you to the rich local cuisine of any region you wish to explore.
