After completing the Regional Design Research Program at Saga University Graduate School in 2018, [the artist] has been active based in Fukuoka. [The artist] has held numerous solo and group exhibitions and has received several prestigious awards, including those from the Kumamoto Contemporary Art Museum and the Fukuoka Art Fair.

Matsumoto, whose pieces often depict young girls and creatures rendered in stylistics reminiscent of yonen manga (children’s cartoons), constructs his unique aesthetic worldview by interweaving the technique and composition of traditional Japanese painting, which he leant through the distinctive Japanese art education system,
together with pictorial methods often used for tobira-e (frontispiece) in manga comics.
